Eglise Gutiérrez
A fast rising star on the international opera scene, Cuban-American soprano Eglise Gutiérrez, is
blazing her way across the operatic stages of Europe and America with her committed
embodiments of the bel canto coloratura heroines.
Proclaimed “Artist of the Year 2009” at Finland’s Savonlinna Opera Festival, Ms Gutiérrez begins
the year 2010 re-creating her signature performance in the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor at
the Florida Grand Opera and makes her debut in this role at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. From the
Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires to the stages of Bogotá Colombia, Hartford, Ct., Mexico City and
Savonlinna, Finland Ms Gutiérrez has won acclaim for her deep interpretation of this bel canto
masterpiece. Ms Gutiérrez will also grace the stage as Miss Lucia this year at the Vancouver
Opera and the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Finland.
February finds her in San Juan, Puerto Rico for a Gala concert with tenor Lawrence Brownlee and
then to Zurich for performances of Rigoletto, before her New York solo recital debut with the
Opera Orchestra of New York.
Springtime in Madrid welcomes Ms Gutiérrez in a concert-version of Bellini's I puritani at the
Teatro Real in Madrid (with tenor Juan Diego Flórez)... a role which gained Ms Gutiérrez
tumultuous ovations at the Seattle Opera in 2008 (under the baton of maestro Edoardo Müller)
and which she will repeat shortly thereafter at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
Her concert performance debut at the Covent Garden took place in September of 2009 in the title
role of Linda di Chamounix (recorded by Opera Rara, scheduled for release in February of 2011).
In 2011 she will perform there the role of the Fée in Cendrillon... a role in which she triumphed at
the Santa Fe opera in 2006. Of that performance Joshua Kosman of the San Francisco Chronicle
commented that Ms Gutiérrez “unleashed a glistening, almost maniacal torrent of exquisitely
placed sound.".
Ms Gutiérrez began the year 2009 as the star of the third MIDEM Opera Night in Cannes. Theater
debuts in 2009 included the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro del Maggio Musicale
Fiorentino, the Ravinia Fesitval, the Vancouver Opera and the Greek National Opera. Concert
performances included Campeche, Prague, Miami, Cannes, Paris, the Savonlinna Festival as
well as a Coast-to-Coast US tour with tenor Andrea Bocelli.
